The People’s Pink Bus service.
Karachi the largest city in Pakistan, is home to a unique transportation system known as the Pink Bus Service. Pink bus service was launched on 01 Feb, 2023 by the Government of Sindh to extend People Bus service in order to provide safe and affordable transportation to women and children. The buses are painted pink and are driven by female drivers.
The Sindh transport Department Launch The People’s Pink bus service for women as color reflect to women. The inauguration of the Pink bus service was led by Minister of transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, Labor minister Saeed Ghani, Sindh government officials female members of the parliament and civil society, in inauguration ceremony media, Lawmakers & bureaucrats were also present in ceremony.
Women can enjoy free rides till 7th, February.
Initially Pink bus service route from model colony to tower via share e Faisal, Bus has capacity of 50 passengers including 2 reserved seats for special/disable passengers.
Female staff as bus hostesses are also hired, Bus service will run every 20 minutes Start from 7am to 11am. 2nd time start from 4pm to 9pm. Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that female drivers will also appointed in a month. Female conductor is responsible for collecting fares and providing assistance to passengers.
Due to Security reasons pink bus service is well received by the public and praised for its safety and convenience. A positive sign for Ladies/girls credited with helping to reduce the number of sexual harassment cases in Public transport. Pink bus service praised for its affordability, as fares are much lower than those of other public transport services in the city. Pink Bus Service is a great success and it will expanded to other cities of Sindh.
